Torre Firenze and the Glueck Arete, outlined by di...

Description

Torre Firenze is the northwestern outcrop on the steep slopes falling away from the Stevia Plateau. Two routes that I'm aware of, reach the summit. More noteworthy of the two is the Glueck Arete or "Glueckkante."

Getting There

From a parking area located at Ortsteil Daunei, reached by paved road from Wolknstein (Selva). Follow a well-marked path to the Juac Hut (Riugio Juac), and continue towards the Regensburger Hut (Riugio Firenze) before leaving the path for climber's trails leading across scree to the formation's base.

The route begins on the Northwest side of the formation and after 3 pitches, reaches the arÍte; move to the right (the crux is a traverse beneath some overhangs on a steep face on pitch 3 and is 5.6/5.7, UIAA Gr. IV+). Another very steep section and overhang is overcome before reaching another bolted anchor. At this point the difficulty decreases along with the angle of the rock. The remaining 8-9 leads are on very good, juggy rock....[more]   Browse More Classics in International
