My wife and I will be in Las Vegas, Nevada in a week or two. She does not climb. She shops!

I like to climb and hate to shop.

Could anyone direct me to an area where I might solo top rope a bunch of moderate, single pitch climbs up to 5.10 or 5.11?

I would appreciate any help you could give me. I really hate to shop.

Thanks!

Moderate mecca in calico basin has a few routes with easy top access. Theres a few (2?) routes to the right of valentines day in your requested grade range, I believe.

you can walk to the top of triassic sands in only 15 minutes more than the approach to the base. you can tr solo the whole thing, you can also tr solo all of ixtlan right next to it. s'great day that feels like you really got out there... you can orient yourself from the wash on the walk-in to figure out where to drop your rope up top. total approach to the top of triassic sands is around 1 hour of up hill walking w/ no scrambling. bring two ropes and fix one at the top.

you can walk up to the top of the first pitch of our father and the 11a next to it (only the good die young?) to the right of t. sands...

you can easily tr solo atman and ying/yang as well.

you can easily access chicken eruptus from the top of ragged edges for a nice 200' line or you can walk the ledge to the top of aikido gun boy/ sheep trail for a nice 11+ and a tough 10-.

i'll be rope soloing something great in your range wednesday afternoon around 2, 2:30 till dark if you want to join shoot me a message and we can hook up for some lappage.

have a great trip,

jon

Another contemplative moment for me on Resolution Arete, a climb which turned out to have more self exploration than physical climbing for us. Photo by Tom Gray.

Please check out Jason Martin's guidebook on the subject of TR'ing at Red Rocks Fun Climbs Red Rocks. There is more top roping and moderate info than you can shake a stick at.

Plus, Jason is a friend of mine and wants to be a famous guidebook author :-)
