Description
The Tongue Area lies uphill behind the Petroglyph Area at Triassic. It consists of a group of boulders with varied and interesting climbing up above a wash. The best bouldering and the landmark you will see from the parking area is the Tongue boulder.
Getting There
Once you come down the main road from the ridge towards Triassic and over the cattle guard you will turn at the second dirt road on your right as if you were gong to the Land of a Thousand Boulders. Go straight up the hill and turn right where the road splits. You will now be traveling roughly south and Triassic will be on your left. Stay on this road for a few hundred yards (dont turn left) till it comes to a circle around a tree where you will park. There will be a small wash south of you that will lead uphill towards the Tongue Area. If you look closely you will see a prominent squarish boulder with a black face. That is the tongue boulder. The rest of the boulders in this area are before it just below. Follow the wash and cut up the hill on the right following a faint trail. There is lots of other stuff to climb before this.. Go explore.
