Description

Tick Rock is an "urban crag" situated smack in the middle of the upscale Pacific Palisades community, between Santa Monica and Malibu. The rock is heavily fractured and featured fine-grained sandstone. The rock and the routes are more reminiscent of the granite of Riverside Quarry than the usual sandstone of Southern California.

The routes at Tick Rock are in the shade in the early morning and the afternoon, making it perfect for half day outings. There are Fifteen documented routes plus variations.

A steep trail leads up and over a small hill to the base, making for a short 30-second approach. Doniel Drazin, Steve Edwards, Jeff Constine, Jack Marshall, Louie Anderson, contributed to route development.

Getting There

PCH to Sunset. Turn left on Palisades Dr. Park in a small turnout on the left about 1.5 miles up Palisades Dr. The top of the cliff and the start of the climber's trail are visible from the pullout. 30-second approach.
