Description
Under the west end of Middle East wall sits this neglected sanctuary of hard, bouldery sport climbs. There are two main caves here, not too tall or wide as caves go but offering great rock. The consequence of this is that the meat of the cave climbing is holdless, beta and body position intensive feature climbing on big basalt chunks. Once above the horizontal roofs, consistently overhanging entablature leads to the top of the basalt layer 60 feet off the deck. There is much more potential here for those who have the patience and skill to unlock the sequences. One should also recall about the Sanctuary - Cosmic Trigger 5.13c, the hardest route at the Coulee, is also one of the shortest at 20 feet - essentially a v9 boulder.
Getting There
Walk .25 miles down Vantage Road from the main parking lot. The caves are obvious and a trail leads directly up to the leftmost, arriving near Cosmic Trigger. A slightly exposed scramble leads right to the second cave with Windham Hell and Udder. You can also traverse west under the cliffs from the Dungeon.
