This is a small crag that face mostly east. It is about 65 feet tall with a number of crack system and some aretes on the left end. Not a lot of climbs here but it is a nice spot and you will have it to yourself.

Getting There

Park in the pullout on the left side of the road just after the General Hitchcock Campground. Hike down the hill 30 or 40 yards then follow the most open areas up to the cliff.

A good safe lead. Very well protected trad route that is either 5.7 or 5.9. Start by traversing in from the left on a big ledge or doing a steeper harder 5.9 direct start. Standard rack up to #4 Camalot. The 5.9 direct is a bit chossy but has decent pro....[more]   Browse More Classics in AZ

Eric, I believe that is The Pyramid. 2 cracks leaning in toward each other.

I posted the page from the old Hut guide, but Jim's comment below (and Steiger's description in his guide) makes me wonder if the Hut guide is wrong. If the right-hand crack is really a gear-protectable 5.12-, that sounds like a nice find.

I did Froggy Richard back in the early 80s with the direct start and thought it was 5.9.

The left angling crack is more like 5.12a. There may be a 5.10 move on it in the middle though. Not even Grossman and McEwen sand bagged that bad.

Hey Jim, it looks pretty good. Is there some honest to goodness crack climbing on it?

It's mostly lay backing with about 3 reel hand jams. The gear is bomber on this route. The rock is not. It got blasted by the fire. Lots of crumbly kitty litter for the first 30 feet. I cleaned on it for over an hour, several more hours would be required to make it a bit better.
