The Northern Group encompasses a series of formations that are home to classics like Kachoong (10c) and A Taste of Honey (10d). There are many other more difficult lines of high quality there as well.

Getting There

The area can be approached from below via a long hike, but it is more easily approached via the summit road. Follow this to a car pack at the end, skirt the gate and continue on the the cliff edge. A steep scramble or easy rappel leads to the base of the more popular climbs. Some routes start from various points in this gully.

A Taste of Honey is yet another Henry Barber masterpiece. Expect just about all of his routes at Arapiles to be extremely difficult for the grade. Descend the High Dive Gully (same as for Kachoong) and scramble up to the photographer's ledge. Set up a belay here and climb up off the belay a short distance, traverse left around the arete, and then up a right-facing corner to the roof. Runner all gear well as this climb changes aspects about 5 times. Place gear under the roof and stretch out ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
