The steep glory of the Main Wall

Description

The overhanging wall which is the main attraction at The Shredding. On the Main Wall Proper there are 8 routes from 5.11a to 5.13c.

Getting There

Follow the path from the pullout up through the forest past the Approach Wall, which is a slabby wall with 3 routes on it. Continue on the trail past the Outer Wall which is taller and steeper than the approach wall. Two options from here, either locate the chasm in the outer wall and tunnel through or walk up and around the outer wall and drop into what I refer to as the Grotto. The main wall is directly in front if you chose the tunnel option or on the right if you chose the up and around option

Spread Eagle 5.12b 7b 26 VIII+ E5 6b  CA : Shasta Cascade : ... : The Main Wall
The left most route on the main wall. Pretty mellow first crux passing the second bolt (high ten?) followed by easy but sapping climbing to an excellent crux sequence through the last few bolts. Passing the last bolt involves establishing on a poor crimp knob, a foot adjustment, then tossing 6 inches further to a good sidepull which unfortunately is extremely sharp, its kind of like a serrated blade. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in CA
