Basically a 30' hole in the ground this small climbing area has big potential for some new climbs. Mostly underground so obviously shady. If you have ever climbed The Waltz, you have seen it on the south side just right of the belay ledge for the third pitch of The Waltz. Beware of loose rock. Once you see it you want to rappel into it just for fun, but you can climb out!!

Getting There

Easiest way is to climb The Waltz then rappel down in from the small tree on the third pitch. You can also hike up the south side of The Waltz and rappel in from the anchors on Santa's Escape, or hike up the north side and walk into the bottom of it, going under the belay "ledge" for the third pitch.

Climbing Season

For the Gallatin Canyon area.

Weather station 4.3 miles from here

How would Santa escape The Hole In The Waltz? Through the chimney of course! Climb the obvious chimney on the west side of the hole with some help from some pinches and jams on the inside. Mantle out the top and clip the anchors for the win. Gets it's R rating from the large amount of loose rock still in the back of the chimney. Belayers, wear a helmet please....[more]   Browse More Classics in MT
