| So the lady and I are heading to the Gunks Sunday through Wednesday and so is the hurricane. Are there any good trad spots within 3 or so hours west or sw of the gunks? | FLAG |

| you will have to go north if you want rock.the southern Dacks are about 2.5 or 3 hours from new Paltz, but will most likely be rained out as well. Sorry about the good old NY weather, but you never know keep your fingers crossed. Pooler | FLAG |

| Im heading up Saturday and will be taking my chances and seeing how the weather is when I wake up Sunday Morning. For all we know this thing could bank out east into the Atlantic by the time it makes it this far North. I would def have a backup plan (As others stated however there isnt much of anything West of the Gunks). However on the other hand for all we know this thing could graze every Northeast State and Rain out the entire Weekend and then some. Sucks | FLAG |

| Given that the storm could be passing through the area all day Sunday, possibly accompanied by high winds, you might consider not driving into the area on Sunday, especially if you plan to camp. There could be downed trees, downed powerlines and flooded roads. Check the storm track Saturday and consider waiting a day and see how bad the damage is. | FLAG |

| Not really within 3 hours, but you could consider beating it further south towards the New River Gorge, the Red River Gorge, or to Seneca. All further, but the storm should have passed by Sunday. | FLAG |

| wankel17, don't worry about that damn hurricane. the gunks is pleasantville, never effing rains, and always sunny and cool. Don't sweat it... | FLAG |

| No matter what happens, we are going to get a ton of rain. Rt 299 likes to flood, and when it does, the road closes for days. I would stay away from the gunks this weekend. Not worth it. Even without high winds and the danger of getting squished by all the falling trees, the flooding danger is too high. | FLAG |

| What about Seneca? Sure, it's a bit of a drive, but should get you far enough west. Yokum's has a great atmosphere, and there's some camping there too if that's your thing. It's a beautiful drive out there. | FLAG |

| Now just a flash freeze and that would make for some fun ice climbing. Wonder how Rumney fared in all of this and if anyone has similar photos :-) | FLAG |

| 299 was closed out of New Paltz yesterday (Tuesday) due to flooding so we had to take 44/55 to The Gunks. The rock was mostly dry (and awesome, first trip there), and today (Wednesday) 299 was back open. | FLAG |

The rock was mostly dry (and awesome, first trip there), and today (Wednesday) 299 was back open. Although if approaching from New Paltz proper, as of Wednesday, 299 was still closed at the bridge. I had to take 208 south to 44/55. The road closed signs were still up on my way out around 3/3:30 pm. | FLAG |

| Rt 299 is now open west of NP. But Peterskill is closed through the weekend at least, due to storm damage within the Park. Edit - I just was told that PK will be open Saturday. | FLAG |

| Ken's crack and Boston both form up under the right conditions in the winter. The trapps is east facing, and gets direct morning sun so its not common that the ice is in good shape. | FLAG |

| I don't want to hijack the thread, but since we're talking about the Gunks and a hurricane... Does anyone know the status of the MUA and/or Camp Slime after Irene came through? Are they open still? | FLAG |
By Woodchuck ATC Sep 1, 2011
| Slime lives up to its name...it's on the hill and any rain runs a river through it downslope. Fill in a few ruts and it's back to normal there. | FLAG |

| I passed the MUA this weekend, it is open. | FLAG |
