Description

Hidden in plain view overlooking Gregory Canyon, the Great Escape Boulder hosts one classic, albeit obscure problem that is a must see for any Flagstaff veteran.

Getting There

Park at the switchback just before the main parking lot for Monkey Traverse area. Head southeast eventually leading downhill past Crown Rock and several heavily chalked walls (Sunshine Slab is the obvious wall halfway down the hill very reminiscent of the Tree Slab in the Beer Barrel area). From there, head down the hillside leading toward Gregory Canyon keeping an eye out for the Great Escape Boulder on your left or your right. The photos will help to identify the boulder.

Aim up and left for a fingerlock in the seam and use tricky footwork and positive thoughts to clear the bulge and hit the lip that feels desperately far away.
