The Doodad-30 foot summit block. Overhanging on al...
Description
The Doodad features one of the most stunning summit blocks in the whole Sierra Nevada range. On a clear day it could be seen all the way from the town of Bridgeport. Although really attractive, only a few parties (if that) visit this nature's masterpiece every year. The Doodad is a 30foot rock, overhanging on all sides. Easiest way up it is an awkward chimney/crack system on the south side of the monolith. Most people rate it 5.6, although the original rating in the guide book is a 5.2. There is also a 5.11 crack that leads up to the summit.
Getting There
Approach this peak from Twin Lakes. Use Horse Creek Canyon trail-head (overnight parking costs money). Best way to approach is to choose one of the cols of the Sawtooth Ridge (Polemonium col makes the most sense) and go over it to the SW side of the ridge. From there pick a 3-5th class line up to the summit ridge.
