So a challenge that has been done numerous times by numerous people. Swim the Lake, solo Turks Head Ridge and run back to the start. I am wondering what the record is for this race?

4 of us did it on Saturday with a winning time of 1 hr 40. We started at the Sugar Maple tree at the NW corner of the south shore parking lot. We ran to the electric fence along the RR tracks, swam the width of the lake with Kayak support. We then all soloed THR after picking up our running shoes from the boat. After the climb we ran the West bluff trail to the North Shore, up the East bluff woods trail to the CCC cutoff at Darcy's Buttress then down the CCC and back to the South shore via the Grotto's trail.

I am sure may other variations exist, but wondering if we can make this into a real thing with an actual course and times. GO!

Brrrrr!!! Sounds fun but I bet that lake was cold in late Sept. Might be fun to try no later than Labor Day for a large scale event. Time sounds pretty good too.

Trying to stay warm up on Brownstone Wall Red Rock...
The temperature of the water wasn't the main obstacle in doing this challenge on Saturday past although it was pretty brisk and especially after first diving in,..... It was "Scout Day" at DLSP this weeknd and there looked to be somewhere in the vicinity of a couple of 1,000 scouts (girls and boys) and scout masters in the park hiking, climbing, picnic'n. Wow! The crux of the challenge was keeping full speed on the run down the West Bluff trail and successfully dodging the hordes of hiking scouts. I took a few out (mereley dislodged them from the center of the trail) and was amused by the loud verbal each recieved from the adjouning scout master..... Ha!

At the "summit"
Sweet challenge. I pity the fools that were taken out by Burt going full steam down the West Bluff Trail.

Never made a race of it but used to cool down after a long day of climbing by swimming the circumference of the Lake staying within 30' or so of the shore. I highly recommend it.

Yo Pukers, Our own unofficial "Dlfa" swim challenge usually consisted of trying to swim across "the" lake ona hot summer,s day after climbing . We would start at birthday rocks area or cop out area(maybe after doin those climbs too) and head on across. No boat support. Some would make it ,some would not.Keep in mind this was usually fueled by cheap swill or something stronger and stranger....if a ya know what I mean. Peace and keep it wet. Steve S.
