Description Suggest change

A small collection of boulders nestled between two prominent cliffs in the "crotch" of twin valley lake. Some classic lines! Nice views from the ridge. The bluffs are easily visible from the far east end of Twin Valley campground.

There is another smaller boulder just south (50ft) with 3 potentially good lines on it. They look fun.

Getting There Suggest change

Due east of Twin Valley Campground you can easily see two large rock outcroppings. The boulders are right on the hillside right between these, inside the Cave Trail loop, below the mesa.

To reach the Cave Trail loop using official park trails is 1.5 miles from either trailhead.

(1) From the Hickory Ridge Group Camp (Qual Wall parking) cross the road and take the Old Orchard Pass trail to the Woodland trail, staying left until you reach junction with the Meadow Valley and Cave trails.  Follow the Cave trail until you see abandoned trail/road heading south - follow this until you reach the Cave trail again.  Go downhill a little and the boulders are a short distance to your left.

(2) From the Cox Hollow dam parking take the Meadow Valley trail north.  When you reach the Cave trail, take a right.  Pass the abandoned trail/roadbed on your left and head downhill a little.  The boulders are in the woods to your left.

(3) The shortest approach (~0.3 mile) is through the Twin Valley campground but do not park at or walk through any occupied campsite!  Park at campsite 271. Hike 50 paces down the wide trail and you should see a small foot path on the right. Take this well worn footpath down the bluff until you hit the wide trail (5 min). Take the trail left. This trail splits quickly, take the Cave trail right (past a wooden bench). At the next intersection (with the abandoned trail) take the right path again. Follow this trail for about 50 feet. When the 4ft berm on the left gets to ground level walk into the woods toward the bluff. The boulders are a very short distance off the trail.
