Description

This is a large, roughly southeast-facing bowl of Wingate and Chinle, sitting underneath Meek's Mesa. The boundary with Capitol Reef National Park runs through the center of this bowl, no new bolts within the park (check google earth for details). Probably only 6 or fewer quality lines, and as of Summer 2012, only one has gone up.

Getting There

20-30 minute approach. Find the Meek's Mesa trailhead (same as The Observatory), and head right at the Chinle until you can go no further.

Feeding the Rat

Feeding the Rat 5.10+  UT : Capitol Reef National Park : The Borderlands
Start in a small bomb bay slot with a tiny pillar and a crack in the back. This route climbs a wide hands corner to an off-width then out a roof via (tight?) #2 Camalots to a splitter crack curving up the face. The route ends at a two bolt anchor on the left. The rock quality is generally good, soft wingate typical for the area. The off-width is made easier by face holds on either side and the route angle lowering. ...[more]   Browse More Classics in UT

The park boundary here seems to be marked with a fence. There is a gate in the fence down low. Higher toward the wingate the fence is in poorer condition, but it can serve as a good indicator of where to bolt and where not to bolt.
