I just found this forum / site while checking out some info about my old digs in Acton. The Texas Canyon route guide (I guess that's what it's called)with photos popped up. I'm pretty excited to see folks climbing there!
Me and a friend climbed and bouldered all over the area back in the early 90's after we discovered it while mountain biking. At that time the rangers held to a no-rope climbing policy. Actually had a gun pulled on us one time by an overeager female ranger for having a top rope up! We used to park down at the motorcycle staging area and hitch a ride back up to stay on the sly.
We spent quite a bit of time cleaning possible routes back in one of the canyons behind what we called the dome. We found and replaced a few old bolts that needed attention and put up a few of our own. Around that time someone was also working on a roof route in the cave below the dome, but we never did see who it was.
I live in Texas now and haven't climbed in years, but finding this forum sure brings back a lot of good memories!
I guess I miss spoke about the Roof.... Scott, most likely, placed bolts.... Kevin “worked “ the climbing and then finally He and “Stainless” Steve Edwards -RIP-fired the RP.
Tripper and crew just recently added 3 new climbs just left of the roof.
Last time I visited the place was packed with happy climbers.

So that’s what Tripper has been up to! Time to make another visit.
Hey Guy...yes, an old thread indeed, but my interest was peeked by Vasquez and his musings about Texas Canyon in the early '90s.
Just curious to find old timers with 1st hand knowledge of the area prior to Spider Savage in '98/'99. I know Scott Loomis was there in '92 along with Leventhal and Draper.
