Hey MP,

Does anyone have reccomendations for where to climb in TN during the winter? I know that T-wall gets a lot of sun,but are there other good ones in December and Janurary. Preferably places that have lots of good routes below 5.10 for trad and 5.11 for sport.

Thanks

Me on One Pitch Wonder at Whitesides. Photo credits to Kyle Jones and his lucky anti-rain jacket.

Leda is okay. It is small, but has some quality routes and a super short approach. It is also right next to Stone Fort, which is an amazing bouldering area. Even if your not into bouldering that much, this place is still a blast. OBED has some very sunny walls. Fosters I believe is SE, so that will get lots of sun in the morning until mid-day. If your in the Chattanooga area, then you are also really close to Alabama, which has cliffs that are warm. Sandrock is good if you can get over the unsightliness. Jamestown is great! Probably one of my favorites.

I was pretty bummed when they didn't greenlight my "Bourne Identity" style reboot of The Eiger Sanction. This was from the rough draft's first act.

I've never understood why T Wall gets all this great rep it's all choss, Buzzard Point, look that place up, totally splitter.

No joke, right? Psyched Willie tried to make a joke and wound up on the side of truth.

Chilling on a hammock anchored with nuts made from tied rope.

Joe Co, when will you you be in TN? I'll be in CO until the 2nd.
T-wall is the principle trad spot in Chattanooga not only because there is a great collection of 5.8-5.13 but also because it is well developed and easily assessable. Honestly, Leda is not that great. There are some great little climbs (60-75ft usually) but Leda is only popular because it's a roadside crag and pretty close to Little Rock City (Stone Fort.) I hate to rag on Leda, it was the first place I ever climbed and where I first lead, but if I were in TN for 3 days for rope climbing it wouldn't make my list.
I love the trad in North Clear Creek and the sport at South Clear Creek (Spawn, Steven King Library climbs), Lilly Bluff (Heresy and lots more, LB reminds me of Deep Creek), and The Hanger climbs at Little Clear, all at the Obed which is near Wartburg, TN.

So many trolls, haha. Twall is great all winter; there isn't much you can't climb year round in TN.

Very funny, but its kinda true I guess (in the respect that there is better rock nearby). There are some crazy awesome climbs around Chatt, but there are access issues out the ass. There is so much stash climbing in TN and GA.

Translation for those of you who aren't from a former member of the Confederacy: A term used to described crushing the gnar at the crag where your second cousin hides his meth.

Or just a douchie way to allude to local areas with sensitive access issues.

this is cameron pemberton and I would like to say that will eslinger and andrew miller are both trolls haha...Buzzard's good for sport climbing harvesting some of the original classics of the area put up by some of the gangsters of the time and t wall is an amazing splitter crag with routes that can humble the strongest of climbers....

The real trolling is dissuading the OP from the radness of the Texas Wall
