Description

There actually is some decent climbing in Tehachapi, CA. Up in Mountain Park. There is 2 or 3 routes bolted for top rope. It's probably about 60 ft to 80 ft routes. It is shady since the trees of the forest cover the rock face so this is best for summer climbing when the dessert is too hot. Watch out for teenagers coming to drink and throw empty bottles down below. There is a lot of broken glass and trash around the base. The rock is covered in moss towards the top and will probably be at its worst in the Spring after the snow run off.

Getting There

Tehachapi is off the 58 freeway between Mojave and Bakersfield California. To get to the rock take Water Canyon road off of Highline on the south side of Tehachapi and drive until the road ends at the last campground. There will be a closed gate off to the right, park just outside of it in the dirt on on the side of the rode. Then walk west around the gate and follow the road through the church camp. Right past the camp on your right side you will come around to the rock. The rocks you see are the top of the climb. Usually we set a rope and rappel down to the bottom and set up our gear for the day. It has super easy access to the top for setting up and a nice trail down to the bottom, its around to the left side. Total hike is around 1 mile.

Beware of people throwing bottles and rocks down from the top.
