Taking the whip

I know there are lots of people asking about practicing falling on gear to see if it's good. Where I think that is kind of silly I understand their theory. I have however been climbing at my limit and taking the whip on gear like once a month. Usually high up on a route gunning for the top or a rest. I only do this when I have good gear and a clean fall but is taking these 20 to 30 footers going to catch up with me. I see the pros do it in the movies all the time. Am I being bold or stupid is the question I ask myself a lot lately.

Probably a case by case basis... but if the gear is bomber you should be totally fine on clean airs, but there's an old adage about there being no old, bold climbers.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
