| We are in the middle of our summer surf and wind surf season here on Maui. I have had a lot of "Great Sessions" on both sides of the island! I'm not complaining at all, in fact yesterday I had a delicious wind/wave session at upper Kanaha with some great folks. BUT the average intensity level is much less than we experience in the winter months here on the north shore. This a little video that my friend Sean Aiken put together and I feel that it projects the stoke of an average winter sailing session at the spot that I call home fairly accurately. Sit back and Enjoy the ride!

The waves have been on the small side here on Maui for a while now but we are expecting a bump up later in the week. That is cool cuz I'm getting some work done. | FLAG |

| I've gotten 6 of the last dozen days, Hobie sailing. 2 unexpected capsize practices. One with me at the helm (2nd day) Had to find the breaking point ;) The other was a friend who wants to learn. I let him take the helm but he seems to be taking time realizing that with a 7-1 mainsheet purchase that 'Here comes a big gust so get ready to ease the main" means something more dramatic than letting out 3" of line through the jam cleat. He needs to learn to check over his shoulder to windward once in a while as well. Sailed till about 2am on the full moon Friday fore last. | FLAG |

I am getting a lot of water time but it's mostly teaching beginner wind surfing lessons at Kanaha. Then I have been going to work remolding my neighbors house till dark. I hope that schedule eases up by the time the next good south swell hit or I am going to be one very tired bugga. | FLAG |

| Got a barrel for the first time in a long time last night. Short wedging right, figured I'd stall and enjoy the view before it pinched shut - didn't contemplate making it - but whaddya know, it held open and I came out stoked! I've missed that view. Here's a pic from a couple winters ago that felt similar: (photo: S. Bissell) | FLAG |

I look forward hearing about more surfing, wind surfing, suping, and yes trundlebum Hobie experiences from you guys. I looks like I have to wait till middle of next week for any thing significant( wave wise) here on Maui.

| Wow Olaf: That is so clean (the pic of Ho'okipa rights). Was it breezy later in the day or was it just a no wind day ? | FLAG |

| Hay trundlebum, Thanks for the note on the Hookipa image. That was an epic day at Hookipa in fact I posted an article on it in my online magazine several months back. Follow this link to see just how epic. Can you say light wind wave sailing? The swell held and the wind got lighter as the session progressed finally it was just a few surfers out. mauiwindsurfing.blogspot.com/2011/02/normal-0-false-false-fa>>> I had a great day on the ocean yesterday, It started with a six person introductory windsurfing lesson with a group of teenagers from Huston and Boseman. The conditions were just about perfect and they all advanced well and were tired puppies after 2.5 hrs of Windsurfing Boot Camp with Sargent o-man and JD. We were compensated fairly! After the lesson I drove to the west side and surfed head and better smooth waves till near dark. It would have been even better except for the near fight in the water between the mellow local long boarder and the wave hogging SUP Haole. The old Hawaiian brahda had just had enough of this guys lack of consideration in the line up session after session, season after season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a very large local contingent in the line up today. | FLAG |
