Two back packs full of camming devices and other rock
climbing equipment were stolen this weekend at the
Hamburger Rock campground at Indian Creek in Utah. The
total replacement value of the stolen gear is almost
$10,000. The backpacks were left leaning against a
vehicle as one occupant slept in the vehicle and six
others slept at the campsite. The approximate time of
the theft was 3 a.m. on Monday morning, April 10th.

Below is a summary of the stolen gear:

- about 65 Black Diamond camalots and 20 CCH Aliens,
some with the initials GGS or SP on the slings.
- large green MEI backpack.
- large green Gregory backpack.
- various slings, biners, ropes, helmets, harnesses,
climbing shoes, headlamps, etc.

If you know the whereabouts of any of this gear,
please email indiancreektheftATyahoo.com. Reward for
information leading to the recovery of the gear and/or
the prosecution of those involved. Please spread the
word.

...or don't leave your gear out in the open. That does suck though. Ouch.

Does it seem that climbing-related theft is getting off to a pretty rapid start this year? I read about some climber getting his whole truck stolen from 29 Palms. Or is just because a buddy and I got around 7 grand worth of gear stolen from us in Vegas last week? Any thoughts?

I was in the Bent Gate store in Golden today and they told me about this guy. Definitely get a hold of the Ebay fraud alert section and provide them a list of stolen items. Often these items and many more turn up there sooner or later. Pawn shops are a good place to start. A lot of meth heads hang out in the desert near Moab and will steal anything to feed there stupid habits. If it was a fellow climber hopefully he'll find that one that needed to be replaced. Payback can be a b!@&#!!!!!

Many people are unaware that their Homeowner's insurance policy will cover this sort of theft. I've never seen one that didn't. Unless it is screwwed down to your car (like a stereo) it should be covered, that is providing you own a home.
I admit, I have a truckload of old worn equipment (or just HEAVY equipment) that I wouldn't mind being replaced, even If I lost my deductable on it...
The deductable still sucks. Make sure to get a police report.

Thanks Tony & everyone, I'm sure the first thing they did was file a report. If this is the work of meth addicts, don't do something stupid to get yourselves shot (whether it regards this gear or your own), just get whatever info you can & report it. I'd hate to see climbers getting hurt over some cams.

Big bumma. Seems to be happening more frequently around there. Also seems that there are more litter bugs and hacks hanging out as of late. BLM plans seem unavoidable, bummer as well...
