I hope there is not an influx of boulderers around Castleton. Would your presence eventually compromise the climbing on those unique desert towers that MANY people enjoy? There is bouldering everywhere. Those towers are not. The presence of another user group can only be detrimental. The desert floor is very fragile and will be easily impacted by all the boulderers feet walking around in search of the next great 10 foot problem. As climbers, we like to praise ourselves for being environmentaly concious, but we will certainly not appear that way in a non-climber's eyes.
Personally, Castle Valley is a really special place. I'm sure it is for many others. Please consider your actions.
I think the question should be, WHY NOT just boulder at Big Bend. It is really good. | |
