belaying with my mind.

I've looked on MP for the approach to Castleton, but I was wondering if we would be able to get there with a Toyota Camry...and by getting there, I mean not getting stuck. I have a Jeep, but we are going cross country and our wallets would benefit from the better gas mileage.

any vehicle that runs will get you to the parking lot

All but the last 200 feet of your approach is paved. The actual parking lot is dirt and might have ruts if there has been rain but you'll at least be able to pull off the road. You could do it in a low rider.

I've cruised Moab in a Camry a bit. You can definitely make it to the Bridger Jack campground in IC too. You won't be able to get to the Cliffs of Insanity though.

It'll go almost anywhere in Moab too, not Moses though.

The worst I did was hit a dead dog just south of Moab (forgot I wasn't in a truck and couldn't just straddle it) and it ripped my muffler off. Loud as hell, hot, bloody, and metal dragging. I think it cost me $50 to fix.

Ghostride da whip!

I have a great mental picture of someone driving a Camry up the Castleton tower trail.

I think you'd need a really really really long winch cable to wrap around the tower, and then maybe a good set of planks for the rock steps.

There's a great photo of Charlie Fowler eating a sandwich off the hood of a Ford Pinto or some such sedan at what is now the common parking spot for Moses/Zeus deep in Taylor canyon. Some mighty unlikely cars use to get way back in there!

Screw walking! This is three seconds before lift-off.

The climber's camping is 100 feet off the road, and a trail to the tower starts right there as well.

if that is the photo I am thinking of, it was taken during a one-day linkup of Primrose Dihedrals, Fine Jade, and Lightning Bolt Cracks. Proud, no doubt.

My first time in Moab I tried to drive our rented Nissan Altima down the Potash road to Island in the sky. It was one of those "at least we don't have to go back through that again" moments so we pressed on. There is quite a hill in the last mile or so that we couldn't get up safely and had to back track all the way back to Moab. Epic.

I remember the photo. It's got a truck like mine or yours. A typical indestructable Toyota pickup.

Alan has got to be talking about something else.

FWIW, I would have happily taken my super corrola to Moses and I think it actually did make it to the Cliffs of Insanity. Suggesting that one take their car somewhere is totally different than taking your own car somewhere though.

I normally do that once a year. That hill is a bitch when there is snow on it.
