Hi all. I am a transfer student to University of Alabama from CU Boulder and I am looking for climbing partners this fall to climb with. I can follow 5.10 and lead 5.9. I'm looking to do whatever. I've been living in Lander, WY this summer and I don't want to stop climbing. Thanks!

Hi Rhodes, welcome to the south. There's some good climbing in Alabama (e.g. Jamestown) but there's even better rock not too far away in Tennessee, so don't limit yourself. Keep in touch and we'll get you hooked up with some of us southern climbers.

PS -- talk to Ben Lyon, get him to take you on a tour of Sand Rock! haha

Ha... Yes you must hook up with Ben for a Sandrock tour. It is his favorite place of all times and he will wax poetic about the glory and purity of its bounty. Of course you may want to hook up with The Duke of Sand Rock also. Welcome to the south, I guess, whatever. I live in Montgomery and have a climbing gym. I know the area fairly well, especially Tennesee. I am slow on the climbing right now due to summer, beer, and women. I will pick back up towards the fall, but will be going to TN next weekend.

Post climb snack...

If you were wondering, the guy is Strappo (could be my long lost brother according to one of my climbing partners), a famous British climber and madman.

The photo was taken in the Yosemite Lodge parking lot in 1982. Russ Walling took the photo. Strappo provided the bread.....

Ah, Sandrock...let me count the ways...I think I just threw up in my mouth...

Rhodes, shoot me an email through the link on this site and we'll get together. I am in Birmingham, an hour East of you, and get out just about every weekend. I will be hitting it hard for the weekend trips this Fall around the SE and NC (big rocks up yonder). I climb trad almost exclusively...

Saxfiend and bbrock are also solid, safe folks if you get the chance.

...and, yes, I'll go to Sandrock...once a year whether I need to or not...that's how much I love the place...barf.

I think Ben is actually starting to develop a soft place in his heart for Sandrock. I'll bet in a year he will only climb there and will be competing for the title of The Duke of Sandrock. I also have a picture of Ben smiling at Sandrock and I'm threatning to post it.

Photoshop it into that shot of Johnny in his black Jag, then post it!

Bryan - That is just dirty. I smile when I get scared, angry, sad, happy, forlorn, pensive, anxious, or when I have to go to the bathroom...so, you see, there could have been many reasons that I appeared pleased...alas, I probably wasn't.

John - Don't encourage him. Also, I could never begin to live up to the bronzed, bolt crazy, bike-short-sportin', standard that is Mr. Arms. (What a cool name, though, right?)
