The Southeastern Climbers Coalition needs your help establishing a new approach trail for the Jamestown, AL crag.

As I noted in a post here last month, the existing approach trail (which descends from the top of the cliff) has been closed. The Alabama Power Co. declined to renew the right-of-way for the section of trail that crosses their land. Currently, the only legal access to Jamestown is to rappel in from the point where powerlines cross the road.

The SCC is planning a trail day in the near future to establish an approach trail from below the cliff. This will be a major project, involving chainsaws, a Bobcat and lots of bushwhacking. The SCC could use lots of help on this, so if you're a southern climber, please consider lending a hand.

I'll update this topic when a firm date has been set (the trail day was actually supposed to happen this weekend, but was postponed due to weather). You can also find out more on the SCC website.

UPDATE: The Jamestown Trail Day has been rescheduled for June 30th.

As noted previously, this is a big project that will take a lot of manpower/womanpower to complete. The end result will be a permanent access trail to one of the finest single-pitch trad destinations in the TN/AL/GA area.

Jamestown has the distinction of being one of the first climber-owned crags in the southeast. If you've never been there, check out the area here on Mountain Project.

If you live in the area, please consider helping out on this project! Lunch will be provided by the SCC for all participants. For more details and directions, follow the link above to the SCC website, or contact me.
