Relaxing at the P1 belay of Fruit Loops at Rumbling Bald.

For those who haven't already noticed, I wanted to let everyone know that southern climbing areas are getting added to the routes database on Mountain Project. North Carolina and Tennessee have been added to the Destinations page, with great areas like Linville Gorge (NC) and Tennessee Wall getting populated with routes. Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia are also being developed, and Alabama will be coming soon.

If you've never climbed in the south, you might be pleasantly surprised at what we've got down here. And the best part is that the season never ends — even in the coldest time of year, there's somewhere you can get on the rock without freezing.

If you have done any southern climbing, I hope you'll consider adding what you know to the routes database. I'm especially grateful for the recent contributions of Bob Rotert, who was one of the early first ascentionists in North Carolina back in the '70s.

Check out southern climbing on mp.com!

Just a photo of me after finishing the Great Arch at Stone Mt., N.C. circa 1998.

I miss the River's Inn more than Shuford's. They can cook a decent steak!
Sax, I'm going to try to gradually add some routes when I get more time. So far, I've been concentrating on getting at least one photo of routes I actually have pics for.

Stopped in there around Christmas and stuffed my fat little face full of pulled pork, under the gaze of the Bear. Yummmm.

You guys don't miss Shuford's as much as I do. They were (and are when I'm back there) my only sponsor. That's why there are no more kids with smoked turkeys in late fall at the T-Wall campground or the Obed. That was us.

I bet you miss Yum Yum's, too. That was the nastiest yet tastiest place I've ever eaten.

Somewhat, but I miss Shuford's more. I should send Jeff Davis an order and have him fed-ex it in dry ice. I have yet to taste any good bbq in kolorado - most are feable attempts. Now I'm sad.

Shuford's is hard to beat after a long day at T-Wall. I've never had their turkey legs, I should try one next time.

The legs are good, but not as good as the whole turkey (not as dry when you get the whole bird).

Back in '96, I got a whole pan of pudding on way up to my folks' house in MI for the family Christmas thing. They charged me $20 (my mom thought it should have been $100) and told me just to put the pan on the porch on my way back through.

Maybe I'll have to deer hunt (and climb, too) in the SE this Thanksgiving week instead of slOhio. MMMMM real BBQ.
