How to really enjoy the Tetons...

Camping is pretty nice at Seneca Shadows. There is nice tent site camping at the top with great view of Seneca itself. Here is a link with more info...

This is why...

It is rather warm at night regardless of where you camp. The state park CG mentioned above it the most scenic and there is a foot path down to the Gendarme from which you can partake in evening debauchery or walk all the way to the rocks w/o driving. For the shortest walk to the rocks stay at Princess Snowbird across the bridge from the Gendarme. Not as aesthetic as the Shadows CG but gets the job done. If you are a cheap bastard, sleep in your car next to the dumpster out back of the Gendarme. Beware of poision ivy there.

Stay at Youkum's (N on 28/55, behind the restaurant) or Princess Snowbird. Both have rivers or creeks flowing right by them, and are owned by local families whose ancestors settled the valley. Seneca Shadows is run by a company from Utah, so about 5% of the revenues actually go into WV's pocket, even though it's a WV NFS campground. It is also typically filled with Winnebagos, barking dogs, screaming tourist kids, no-see-ums and mosquitos from April until late September.

You can join the front porch posing at the Genderme just as easily from Snowbird as from the Shadows, and instead of camping in your car, try hiking 200 feet into any the hundreds of square miles of National Forest that surround the Rocks. If you are at Yokum's, and you just gotta pose and get a dose of the "scene", it's all of a three-minute drive.

It's also pretty easy to hike up to the Shadows and snake a shower from Snowbird... not that I'd do anything like that, mind you...

Huh, I must always stay in a different FS campground of the same name. The one that's relatively quiet all the time. Well, OK, those old RVers DO tend to get crunk now and then...

That advice is worth considering...

That advice isn't.

It both flies in the face of your socially concious decision to stay at a locally owned establishment and fails to take into consideration that Snowbird has free showers for customers.

Of course anyone who has actually hung out with all the great people who congregate on both decks in "town" knows this is the most juvenile and insecure statement made in this post.
