Where is everyone? Where did the community trailer go? Why do people think MDF/Particle board is good firewood?

I was there with a couple friends in Feb/March this spring. It was pretty empty the whole time.

With weather so good, I thought I would at least see the resident/seasonal dirtbags.

ummmmm..... the "community trailer" was actually Blitzos residence. He has moved up in the world. The trailer has been moved.

Mdf is at least 3 bumps up from a tire. I see no problem with that.

Glad to here Blitzo's doing well, I was curious since I hadn't seen him in a while. Phil Bircheff was around for a bit, I hope things are going well for him as well. Maybe you know how he is doing Russ? So I guess there are no resident guys to gather great stories, knowledge, and ostensible wisdom from anymore huh?

Last I heard (~Aug), Phil is up in Bishop ... if we're talking about the same Phil. I never did get his last name, but he took me on Sail Away and a few other easy classics back in April, I think it was.

Phil would be the older guy, about 60, awesome(take my word for it if you aren't sure why), able to neutralize even the most annoying drunken arguments and comments, makes ceramics.

... could be a different Phil though.

I think it is true... Phil is in Bishop or ....... close to it? working on a house? Construction work?

The pit is a harsh environment for them olde dudes, even with the MDF fire.... It is still way early season wise, and I'm sure a story filled fossil or two will roll in and regale the pit dwellers with BITD stories before too long.

edit: Phil makes the cool busts of Harding with the bat wings out of plaster or something. Also did the first ascent of the Bircheff/Williams on Middle Cathedral in 1969! Really cool hombre!

That's good, I'm glad to hear that Phil is up to something good too. Although, I kind of wanted to pick up one of his ceramic sculptures.

Hmm... I guess we will just have to see who will be a pit resident this season, albeit a bit early.

The weather was awesome last weekend, for early in the season; if anyone was wondering.

Awesome Russ, thanks for that link. Wunderground also says the weekend should be perfect! It's open season guys, I know where I'll be this coming weekend, see all y'all there!

I saw your edit, so I thought I'd add:
Third Pillar: III 5.10a FA: Phil Bircheff
Lurking Fear. (VI 5.9 A2). Dave Bircheff, Phil Bircheff and Jim Pettigrew '76
+ many other contributions to notable ascents

Better than all of that ^^. Hes a great story teller, and a really nice guy.

Sounds like the same Phil, although I wasn't aware he did ceramics. Wonderful leathered face though, with a mischievous smile sometimes and whitish hair pulled back into a lil ponytail when he felt like it. Great shape for a man in his sixties. Phil, Blitzo & Zip took me under their wings for the short time I was there. Miss those guys so much.

I'm definitely going to be at Jtree all weekend pretty much, never stayed at the Pit, always hear mixed reactions about the place, anyone going to be there for sure?

I tried to send an email to join the association but the email address Climbers@ClimberRanch.Com came back as undeliverable. How can I join up? Is it still required to send an email to join and use the area?

Thanks

I have no idea where that email goes anymore, or if anyone even checks it. But no, you don't have to join anything, just show up.

Okay so I drove by what believed to be 'the pit' this weekend intent on staying there, given from this thread it seemed that if we didnt cause any issues we'd be able to camp there unmolested. Well we get there and there is this sign ( hung up by nylon and climbing rope, was a big give-away) stating it was private property and such, and while it seemed the 'no trespassing' part had been folded over, I didnt want to go barging onto to someone elses property when there were other camping options available, and I could just ask MP.com about it later.

So here I am, thoughts? Just pull the sign out of the way and put it back after driving through? This isn't 'the pit'? 'the pit' is all an elaborate hoax to lure people out of the park for a wild goose chase while all the prime in park campsites are gobbled up?

Thanks in advance

I stayed there last Saturday. There was a rave going one or something. Really annoying techno music and tweaked out kids.

So, when the signs say the park camping is "full" and the ranger states so, what percent of the time is that total BS? We went into the park on Sunday and found 3/4 of the Indian Cove sites empty. I find it hard to believe that every site in IC was full the previous nite.

Sites are probably real close to full when they say they are. That does not mean that you will not find camping inside the park. Be inventive.... carry beer.... ask around for space for an extra car etc.

Rave in the pit? Unreal..... don't be shy about telling them to STFU.

We should talk to Wally about setting up actual posts with a chain gate. Lock the chain with a combo similar to Enchanted Tower.

Climbers will know the combo when they answer the riddle. Riff-raff will not.
