| Can anyone recommend list of 5.8 – 5.10a top rope routes where anchor can be set-up by hiking/scrambling up (not lead climbing the route first)?
Thanks, -bro | |

| Out at Split Rock, there are two formations that have your name all over them: Future Games and Isles in the Sky. Classics there within your specified range include Invivibility Lessons, Bird of Fire, Dolphin (yes it's a classic), Continuum, plus a few face climbs at both formation. You can find both of these areas here at mp.com. Usually a quiet spot, too. | |

| I have a problem with recommending an area that was established a lead area, such as Future Games Rock. If you want to top rope, it's better etiquette to go to an area that has a more established history as a top roping crag. I've spent weekends at Josh in the Hemingway and nearby areas driving around looking in vain for crags that weren't monopolized by people top roping.
If you don't have the gear or experience to lead routes, by all means do what's safe and fun for you. Do be respectful, however, of others and don't leave your ropes up all day, or offer to pull them if someone wants to come by and lead something. Sorry. Just a pet peeve. | |

| Probably 75% of the climbs at Joshua Tree can be toproped if you are willing to do Class 3 or 4 scrambling to get to the top. Be sure and bring some long slings, because anchors are often well back from the tops of the cliffs. | |
