Description

The Split Rock Creek splits a band of Sioux Quartz just outside the town of Garretson, South Dakota, making for lots of climbing right off the water. Loads of picnickers will be strolling through the area during the summer.

Getting There

10 miles north of Interstate 90, off the Brandon exit (Exit 406). 25495 485th Avenue, Garretson, SD 57030-6117

Before turning into the park I'd suggest driving another 45 minutes east to Blue Mounds State Park in MN, you'll be glad you did. The only advantages Palisades has over Blue Mounds is taller routes and it's more picturesque. This park enjoys swarms of mosquitoes and tourons in the summer.

Palisades State Park is indeed worth visiting. The camping is great and there are many levels of routes available.

I will agree with Doug, but come fall when the bugs are gone and the air is dry there are a handful of routes well worth your time. Try Glimmer, King Olaf, Cemetary Gates, The Bitch, and The Czar.
