Description

This is one of the best boulders in South Dakota. John Gill apparently thought so too, and established a slew of classic lines on it. The imposing yellow wall has great highballs with bolted toproping anchors for mortals. Hard mantle problems, fun flakes, dicy edging, and delicate friction can all be had on this classic piece of stone.

Getting There

Walk along the trail on the side of Sylvan Lake opposite the general store. After a few minutes walk, look uphill at the huge boulder. This is it.

Limburger Cheese ain't the only strong thing that came out of Wisconsin! The Choss Monkey sends with ease.

Classic Corner V4  SD : Custer State Park : Outlets
On the Sylvan Lake Campground boulder. From the rail that skirts the lake, you'll probably notice Central Yellow wall first. Give that problem a go..its an all time classic boulder problem. John Gill had a knack of finding such problems. If you sent that problem with ease, then take a look a few feet to the right on the rounded arete. There is a nice little problem with nice little holds. There are some wicked moves on this problem. Just Send it!...[more]

Anybody know where the "Outlet Boulder" with the classic V5/V6 sloping layback boulder problem is located? I walked all over Sylvan without happening upon it. I don't see it it listed.

Rockclimbing.com has it listed but locates it "between the outlets" which means nothing to me. Thanks! JW
