Description 

This area is used frequently by 4-wheelers, bicyclists, hikers and gun-wielding enthusiasts. It is probably best known for its single-track bike trail “Bone Collector.” I have been coming here for years and have only recently seen other climbers and only a few at that. The area is definitely for bouldering. The rock is sandstone and of a decent quality (sometimes fragile or grainy). Bring a brush. There is not a large quantity of problems that I have found but enough to keep a person busy for awhile (similar to the Rock Mazes in size). However, because of the nature of the cliff lines in the area, there may be a large potential for further development if one is willing to hunt for it. The true beauty of the place lies in the proximity to town and its aesthetic beauty. I have no illusions of being the first to climb here so I will simply refer to it as Bone Collector. Bone Collector is divided into three sections: Bone Collector Proper, High Side and Low Side (I have simply attached names to ease the process of description, same goes for the problems). All three reside on Forest Service land.

On a side note: Because it is impossible (and unimportant) to know who may have climbed what first, I am simply leaving a ? in the FA column of all the problems I post. Also, because of the relative nature of ratings and their tendency to distract from the good things in our sport, I have simply left the difficultly ratings broad. Feel free to post your opinion, however. This place has provided me with much enjoyment, and therefore, I must share it. I hope it leaves you content.

Getting There 

Take Hwy 44 West out of Rapid towards Johnson Siding. Drive 7.5 miles past Canyon Lake to Log Porch Rd (used to be called Community Hall Rd), which is directly after the sign for Thunderhead Falls. Turn right onto the gravel road and drive past two houses (please go slow) before it turns into logging road 173. From Hwy 44, drive 1.2 miles to the turn to the Low Side and the start of the High Side or 1.6 miles to the pull off for Bone Collector Proper. The entire approach only takes 10-15 minutes from Rapid. The logging road is well maintained (for the most part) and any car should have no problem. However, the Forest Service blocks the road from December 15 to May 15 each year.
