Mitch working through the crux.

Description

This large choss-tower is a good place to visit if you're looking for an uncrowded scrambling venue. The rock quality is poor, but the views from the summit are incredible and make it worthwhile.

Getting There

Follow the Amphitheater trail to the junction with the Amphitheater Express trail. The tower is just about visible through the trees ahead. At this point, bushwhack south uphill through trees and talus to reach the slender, chosspile tower. Approach time is 15 minutes.

Owl Perch 5.7  CO : Flatirons : ... : South Amphitheater Pinnacle
Start climbing a little left until you reach the small crack about 20 feet up, which is the crux. Follow the crack to the right until you come out on top of a small bush. Keep climbing right of the bush until the rock starts to get really shaky- then head over to the arete on your left. You can cheat and use the left side, or make it more challenging and stay more on the right. The rock sucks here. However, there is a line of fairly solid rock if you follow it the right way....[more]   Browse More Classics in CO
