Tainiko Lowman sending Smiley Face. November 2013.

Although dominated by its namesake Smiley Face (V4), the area packs in a surprising number of other great problems including Light Your Mind (V3), Left Bookend (V3), Nose Picker (V4), Multiple Personalities (V6) and the ultra-hard Tony’s Roof (V10). The grades in the area pretty much start at V3 so come ready to crank.

Getting There

Take the trail beside the nature center into the forest. At first three-way trail junction go Right. At second three-way junction go Left and watch for an obvious access trail on Right. Take access trail into forest pass 45 area to the large (and well chalked) Smiley boulder.

An alternative approach is to enter the area from the white blaze trail. Look for access trail on left side of trail as you head into the forest. Access trail with double back and head uphill entering just below the Smiley boulder.

Sit start matched on a obvious jug and pick some feet. Pull on and cross right hand to a sloper crimp, then work your way left to the arete. Figure out how to reach the crimp way out left from the mediocre holds of the arete. Once established on the crimp toss up and top out on jugs....[more]   Browse More Classics in PA
