Crazy... This super classic roof is what its all about. A 12 foot horizontal suspended roof over a good landing directly beside the trail with a 4 minute from the parking lot.
SlS Roof has edges, slots, and big beautiful pinches to travel across.
"SLS" is a highly sought after hard problem in GHSP, and "Nancey With An E" is one of the best V7s in the park... both under the same roof. If you like steep pinch & crimp roof climbing, youre looking at the right place.
Walk past the overlook and onto the trail. pass the Overlook Area which spans down past The Hive Boulder and the tiny Foggy Mountain Fin. After the Fin, your basically out of the Overlook Area.
After Overlook, you will walk around a very tight left turn in the trail (30 seconds past the fin) and now you are in the SLS Area.
After the sharp turn, the next feature you will see is MOW, which is a massive double-decker boulder which looks like a huge mouth (use youre imagination... its a large patio boulder with an even larger, steeply inclined roof boulder on top of the patio).
Directly past MOW is another steep boulder which is Alcatraz. The very top nose of Alcatraz is touching the back of MOW. The steep dark overhanging face is where the Escape problems are located.
Stay on the trail as it turns right and the large boulder beside the trail is the Mike-N-Ike Boulder.
Past Mike and left more will be the Pit Boulder, and the the massive roof beyond this is SLS.
SLS is the massive roof that the trail passes directly infront of... Cant miss it!

S.L.S. Boulder: Classic! Shane Messer Climbed the First Ascent of this line in 2009, followed by Aaron James Parlier in August 2011, and Matt Bosley claimed the 3rd ascent on Sept 13th 2012."S.L.S" starts far, low, in the back of the large, overhead, ominous roof. Match hanging on the low rear ledge on the middle two "knobs" with a heel hook out right. Reach out to the first and then second pinches (same as "Nancy"). From the second slopey pinch, climb straight out of the roof to gain deep, thi...[more] Browse More Classics in VA
