Can anyone recommend the best place to get climbing shoes resoled in SLC?

I don't have any good suggestion where you should go, but I would avoid going to Roundy Boots.
He was a very nice guy, and probably does a great job with boots, but he practically destroyed my climbing shoes. I've heard some similar gripes from others in town with regard to his work on climbing shoes.

The Gear Room did a good job on my TC Pros. I belive its the only place in SLC...

I second this. Get a few pairs together and ship them off.

Not a lot of love here for the Gear Room...Do you guys feel like locker and rock and resole do better work? Just wondering...

I saw some of the resoles in person the last time I was at the Gear Room. I was not impressed. They looked really messy and for around the same price, you can just send them to a shop that will do a professional job. Yosemite Bum has always done great work for me and their prices are some of the lowest.

i've had the best luck with rock and resole. Wish I could get them done local though and save shipping.

We really don't have any good options in SLC. In the past I've used primarily The Rubber Room in Bishop (in the back of Wilson's East Side Sports - don't know if they're still in existence) and Rock and Resole. Next time it will be Locker's Positive Resoles. I also used Komito Boots in Estes Park, but that was a *really* long time ago and the last time I used them, the shape of my shoes was pretty altered.

Locker has done great work on everything I've sent his way. I believe he is taking a couple of weeks off, but it will be worth the wait if you are not in a hurry.

My luxury liners (five ten pitons with room for BBQ socks) sprung holes on both toes and rands. They are at Komito Boots in Estes park, CO. I'll post up when I get them back. So far I'm impressed with the professionalism and custy service.

Here's some pics of my shoes back from komito. Scheduled for work done week of August 2-8. Got them back Saturday 8/15. Roughly 14 days turn around I think is about average.

I took the new rubber for its maiden voyage up Portable Darkness on devils castle. They fit the same as they did before and climbed like they have new rubber so I am pretty happy. Thought I was in for a double rand replacement but they saved one of them without a trace. They sent me the old piece of rand with my shoes.

Overall good work. I was even more stoked when Stevie nacho told me that komito himself was on some old desert ascents with Layton Kor et al.

I recently went to The Gear room and had a great experience. I walked in and asked what's the soonest they could have them resoled, luckily the guy that resoles, was there. He asked if saturday morning was soon enough (it was thursday night). I said that would be great cause I was planning on going up AF canyon saturday morning. Sure enough, saturday at 10 am my shoes were resoled, and they even fit just like they had! I had a great experience there and I would highly recommend them

Glad to hear you liked the resole BRShneid.

I recently took over doing the resoles for the Gear Room. So please disregard those previous comments on this thread. The previous Gear Room Resoler was Don Roundy, there is another mtn proj forum discussing his resoles. He is a talented shoe maker, but he’s not a climber, so there were some issues that resulted in some negative feedback from his resoles.

I work through Roundy’s shop and do all of the climbing resoles. I’m a dedicated climber and have been working hard to produce nothing but 100% quality resoles. I still consider myself slightly in the trial and error faze, but so far I’ve done over 100 shoes and the feedback is very positive.

So if you need a resole, stop by The Gear Room ( 2258 E. Fort Union Blvd. Suite B6 Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121 ) or Roundy’s Shop (4826 South 2200 West Salt Lake City, UT 84118 )

We use 5.10 C4 Stealth rubber.
Our turn around rate is 5 days or less
If you have any problems with the resole I'll gladly fix it for free.

You can also PM me with any other questions.

Cheers!
