I've been getting out several days since somebody asked about Basin Mt conditions.

Indeed several roads up to high trailheads were opened last Saturday - (the only one I've heard is definitely not open yet is Horseshoe Meadows / Cottonwood Lakes).

We've find worthwhile skiing on N-facing couloir with heavy "powder" in steepness range 35-40 degrees (though with more exposed rocks to dodge than some years).

And nice skiing on mellow slopes starting near high trailheads, though with more sections exposed rocks to navigate around. Expect to remove skis for some sections. Might not hurt to have alternate routes in mind. Seems like a good GPS track can help -- if follow it precisely (taking shortcuts cost me some time and energy).

I'll be getting out to ski tomorrow somewhere between Onion Valley and Tioga Pass.
If might want to join (or just got together around Bishop to swap stories and ideas) --
Send me a message thru my MP account.

Tioga Pass Rd -- too bad,
I heard from a couple of sources that it's still gated low.
They did not open as hoped last weekend, I heard because of fresh snow.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
