Description Siby is an area of seemingly infinite rock climbing potential. Fortunately a group of very friendly Malians have begun a climbing/tourist community at the base of the cliff formations in this area. These guys have been trained in Chamonix, France and have established many routes on formations throughout the area. The rock quality is very good but is characteristic of any developing area (both the advantages and disadvantages of little route traffic). Currently the routes range from 4+ to 8a+ but there is a huge potential for more climbing including difficult trad climbs. Close to the Arch, there lies a good, albeit short hand crack that splits a column shaped formation just south-west of the main route going up the Arch's south face. This crack remains predominantly in the shade and provides a nice traditional alternative to climbing the arch's backside, which is most often piping hot in the sun.The rock is corral-esque so good rope management is advised to prevent frays.
