Shipping a rack/rope internationally?

Anyone have experience shipping a rack from the US down to South America? I'm interested in spending 3-4 months being a tourist in the Northern part of South America first, then climbing in Cochamo second. It would be ideal if I could leave my gear in the US for the first 3-4 months, then have it shipped to me when I'm ready to focus on climbing. Is this possible and has anyone done this? How much would it cost? I'm getting estimates from $70 to $400 online depending on box dimensions and which service.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
