Anyone have any idea if the royal gorge, or black forest fires will effect my weekend romp at shelf this weekend? Kevin Petite

Smoke issues will be wind dependent. If they are blowing from the south like they have been lately, this may make it pretty hazy at Shelf.

It could end up closing highways possibly if it gets bad enough, but I think you should be fine. It's just going to be hot more than likely. I'm in Colorado Springs for instance and can't smell smoke from either the Black Forest fire or Royal Gorge at the moment.

(One more thing, it's "affected.") :-)

I was thinking of climbing a few routes in Eleven Mile this weekend. Does anybody know if that area is affected? Thanks in advance! Suka D.

Damn, now I can't write something really funny like "No, fires did not cause Shelf Road to come into being."

But a comment like, "People like you who find Smokey intolerable are to blame for the fires in the first place" was still fair game...

Last year was the year forest fires encroached on Elevenmile Canyon, but you can barely see any evidence of that fire now from the road.
