Hey me and a couple of friends will be in Red Rocks in Octuber 6-13. we will be doing mostly sport and a couple of days trad.

Im guessing it will be warm. Do you have any route or crag suggestions?

What i have in mind is:

The black corridor
Sweet Pain wall
Sandstone Quarry
Mezcalito: Dark shadows
Black Velvet Canyon:Dream of wild turkeys
Mezcalito: Cat in the hat
The Gallery: (as soon as the gate is open for at least a couple of burns)

looks good- temps are cooling off rapidly, RR is in the 80s now, which is really nice in the shade in the afternoons.

Wake-up Wall/Sonic Youth area will be excellent in the afternoon.

Gallery should be in the shade until at least 10a.

Cat in the Hat will likely be too warm- it sits on the southeast/west face of Mescalito, so it gets alot of sun. You could try a really late start via Cookie Monster and maybe get away with it.

I'd avoid the Corridor- that place is such a junk show and to be honest, theres not any truly worthwhile pitches to be done in there. There are some good climbs if you've got some newbs to drag up some .10s, but Sweet Pain (warm up on the first two .10s on the left at Stone Wall) is a much better choice, imho.

have fun.

Torchraker!!

I was just there last weekend, it was pretty warm in the sun! We got an early start on Johnny Vegas and it got toasty fast! Climbed at Calico Basin in the late afternoon, Big Bad Wolf and Physical Graffitti weren't too bad. Saturday morning we got an early start and spent the day on Crimson Chrysalis, perfect day!
Lotta Balls and Black Magic are getting afternoon shade also. Tunnel Vision is pretty much all shade. Hope some of this helps.

If you want to go up to Charleston, you can hit either the Hood (.12 and up) or Roost (.11 and up) climbing. Sounds like temps are getting cold fast up there, so take a puffy and plan on mid-day climbing, maybe even morning climbing in the sun. Roost: Conny Loves Daddy, Highway Man, Train Robbery are all classic. If you're pulling harder, Glory Days, America's Most Wanted, and Entropy. Hood: Heating up the Hood for your warmup (mid .11), then Straight Outta Compton, Urban Decay, Animal Attack, Borderline, Warlords, etc, etc.

Potosi is mostly .11 and up as well, from what I understand. Havent been up there yet, but I think its coming into season.
