I'm staying on Peaks Island, near Portland, next weekend. It looks like there's some nice climbing nearby on the sea cliffs. From the topo map, Great Diamond Island looks promising.
Anyone have any beta? Access to cliff tops? Rock quality. Routes?
Hey man, I live near portland. Those cliffs are on private property, and the ethic around here is to keep them on the d/l. They've all been climbed extensively ages ago. If you want to climb them get in touch with the town of Cushing.
Does "keeping them on the d/l" include The North Face using pics of Honnold et al. on routes there extensively in their current advertisement line up? Including publishing on the pictures where the routes are?
Not trying to be an ass, but just saying that this thread needs to be deleted ASAP is a little extreme; it was a legitimate question.
Those TNF ads are mostly the Newfoundland cliffs Honnold and co did a mini expedition to a little while ago. The Maine cliffs that they do use are w/o issues, that I'm pretty sure are listed in New England guidebooks. I could be mistaken on the last bit, but I'm definitely sure about the first part.
You can also check out Fort Williams Park, it's about 15min from Portland. There is lots of bouldering and some top roping by the sea. Far from a destination, but the view is great and access is not a problem.

You're right Nick, the cliffs they climbed were down east and in a completely different part of the State. Quoddy Head isn't in a guidebook tho
