Hello fellow climbers. Just want to see how bad black flies are at Rumney. My girlfriend is now deathly afraid after the previous weekend up in Maine where she got over 30 bites on her ankles and shins and still can't stop scratching (no skirts for her). Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

We were up there on Friday and didn't have any problems at New Wave or Vader. The mosquitoes were fierce but bug spray kept them at bay.

huh, we had no problem in Maine last weekend. Pick a nice and windy day to climb and there will be less bugs if you're really worried.

Rub baking soda on those bites, and the itching will go away fairly fast.

On Saturday, they weren't bad at Waimea or Main Cliff. A little bug spray, and you should be just fine...though I would imagine that the crags lower on the hill (5.8 Crag, the Meadows, etc) could be a bit worse.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
