Interesting, especially in light of the Earth Treks gym announcement and Movement's plans... From Rock'n and Jam'n:

Our Swan Song...
parting shot

Close to 20 years ago, we had a dream. That dream was to open the best climbing gym we possibly could. We poured our heart and soul into this effort and 16 years ago, we began construction of RJ1. 7 years after that, we decided to do it over again with RJ2.

Our lives have been enriched by this effort and the people we've met over the many years of operation. Looking back, we wouldn't have changed a thing. But our journey is about to change once again.

3 months ago, we were contacted by a business broker. He informed us that he had a prospective buyer for a climbing gym in the Denver area. We've heard that story before...but this time it was real!

It is with bittersweet emotion that we inform you that we will be "entrusting" our gyms, our staff, and our customers to new and wonderful owners. Their names are Adrian and Anna. We are truly happy to announce that we feel we've found the perfect match to carry on the ROCK'n & JAM'n tradition of the best climbing gyms around.

We know that this news probably catches you by surprise, and believe it or not, we are still reeling from everything that has occurred over the past few months.

Our plans are to help in the transition effort for the next few months, so you're not rid of us yet! We plan to still have counter shifts for several more weeks. Tricia and Brian have yet to make us new name badges. Your guess is as good as ours as to our new titles. After that, we have no idea what our next adventure will be...

Please give a warm welcome to the new owners of ROCK'n & JAM'n. You'll be able to recognize them easily. The are the people that have that "deer in the headlight" look about them.

I've heard about the new Earth Treks gym, but not about Movement's plans- what's up with them?

Hopefully with the new ownership, there will be some changes and renovations. Can't wait to see what's going to happen!

Wow, that didn't take long. Good on John and Deb for getting out while the getting's good. Best of luck and thanks to them.

If the new R&J owners can weather the first 6-8 months after EarthTrek's opening, I suspect they'll be able to stay afloat after EarthTreks becomes too insanely crowded for many people. Also assumes they can get some decent route-setters and replace a bunch of holds.

Thanks for the article links David... this reminds me of the yoga studio scene around here- it's hard to know when you're getting close to market saturation before you're there. Many of us in Boulder thought Movement was too close to the BRC (same neighborhood) and that both would suffer, but both places are crowded most evenings. Ann and Mike's plans seemed a bit ambitious at the time Movement was being designed and built, but the gamble seems to have paid off- I wouldn't be surprised if it pays off again in Denver. Now, if only someone would build a bouldering wall in the B concourse at DIA....

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
