Hi, can somebody tell me how are the rock climbing conditions in late October/ early November normally? Is it too cold? When is the snow normally starting? Any climbing sites not as good at this time of the year? Thanks, Sebastien

Depends on where you're headed, Boone area/Linville Gorge could be cold, but likely perfect if you're bouldering. The weather fluctuates so regularly in the high country, there are many areas in the state lower in elevation as well, crowders, moose's wall, even rumbling bald is a bit lower

Thanks. How about looking glass, stone mountain, laurel knob?

Late October/early November is usually a great time to climb just about anywhere. Looking Glass S Side and Sun Wall are usually fine, and Stone Mountain & Laurel Knob also fine. The North Side of Looking Glass may be fine or cold depending on the weather of the day. It looks like you're looking for slabby climbing, so you should be good to go.

In my opinion, October/November is prime time for WNC. And Stone, if the sun is out. Few things beat the view high on these domes when the leaves are full force.

Prime time for all three.

You can climb anywhere, except maybe ship rock. It is the driest time of the year. You can also search history and get averages for a given date/month on most weather websites.

If temps are truly chilly, Rumbling Bald is a great spot in the cooler months. Late October is sending season!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
