Hey everyone,

I'm leaving Montreal in September for a 6 week road trip in western Canada and i would love to have your help to identified the "must climb area". I know about skaha, squamish and the lake Louise area but is there something specific in these area that i should do? Any other classic climbing crag that i should know of? I know it is a really general question but im just trying to set up an itinerary that could include as much crag as i can and most of the "renowned" place. Classic boulder spot is also accepted:D

I'm looking mostly for BC and Alberta but i you guys know some place in Saskatchewan and Manitoba that is worth making the detour, i would love to know!

I'm also looking to buy some topo so if you have any suggestion on topo that you like, feel free to tell me :D

Thanks you all for your answer!!

P.S: I climb sport 5.10A-B and boulder V3-V4, so nothing too hard please

If you're headed to Squamish pick up Squamish Select by Marc Bourdon. I see you climb sport and didn't mention going to Cheakamus Canyon. It's like 20 minutes north of Squamish. There's also some good bouldering in Pemberton, the Green River bastion boulders I think. That's about an hour twenty north of Squamish. You can hit those on your way down 99 from Canada 1 I dont know when you plan to head to the Okanagan but you could hit all those before you head to Squamish if you're coming from the Rockies.

Watch the weather. August would be a drier month. I remember September being like June, sometimes rain sometimes sun. The good thing about September is less crowds and heat.

thanks for these tips! I'll certainly look at cheakamus canyon and Pemberton, and also for the sqamish select topo! Our itiniary isn't clear at all for now, so i don't know if were gonna do the okanagan valley after of before sqamish...it will probably depend a lot on the weather. It's sad if august would be drier but we cannot leave before the end of it :(...at least if it less crowded it's a good thing.

Is there a lot of mosquitos/fly in september? I guess it will depend a lot for each of the different area...?

Thanks again

Bugs will only be a problem in swampy areas from what I remember. If you do encounter them it will be bad. It gets windy starting at noon everyday in Squamish. You could set your watch by it! So bugs aren't a problem there. You're going at the end of the dry season, that helps.

Skaha gets hot in mid summer, either come first or in the fall. Try this FaceBook site for partners in Skaha.
