| I'm planning a trip to CO/WY in late June and was looking for some input on climbing the Casual Route on the Diamond at this time. I know the weather is subjective to the year's conditions, but I'm just looking for some general knowledge. Are ice ax/crampons required for the approach? Will hands become frozen nuggets before p1 is over? | FLAG |

| You might be able to get it done. Depends on snowfall in the spring. Check in then. Crampons and ice ax are often useful for the approach that time of year. If it doesn't work out, there's plenty of stuff in the area that dries out sooner. | FLAG |

| I climbed the Casual in early June in 2000, which was a very low snow year. We didn't need ice ax/crampons, and the route was basically dry. More common is that the approach will require that gear and the route will be all wet. Your hands won't freeze on P1 but they might after you get to P3 or 4 after you've been sticking your hands into ice water for a couple hundred feet and the sun has left the face for good. If you feel up to something harder, Pervertical Sanctuary (2nd easiest route up there) dries out a lot faster and gets sun a lot longer. | FLAG |

| Here is a photo from june 14, 2011. Usually crampons and at least one ice tool are necessary in June, and climbing the diamond that time of year is a much more involved proposition. | FLAG |

| I did it in late June on a very heavy snow year and it was OK. No ice axe or crampons but we could have used them. There was snow on the route but it was fine. Doing it then you are much more likely to have solitude too. | FLAG |

| One thing, don't let your guard down if you rap in June. Broadway can be very slippery. I was really glad I was roped up going to the anchors on Crack of Delight from the bottom of the Diamond. | FLAG |
