Jay Conway on Riviera

Description

Riviera is a line of strength up the steep bulging right sector of Waimea. Wild, technical, and bouldery, a send of Riviera is certainly a proud one. A must climb for the V9 boulderer.

Start by making a huge leap to the first hold of the route- a jug that needs to pinched quite hard to control the swing. From here, heel hooks and a big lockoff allows access to a big jug and a stance to clip the second draw. Here's where the business begins: Launch out right into the corner, using heel hooks and unimaginably poor (and sharp) crimps, finally gaining access to an awful sloping fin. Make a couple more moves out right, gaining some better holds, and finish up the 5.11ish romp to the chains.

Location

The first bolted line encountered upon arriving to Waimea.

Protection

I remember trying this when I was a V9 boulderer... it felt impossibly hard.

You have to be good at prying elevator doors open for this one.

Does anyone know if a link up has been done starting on Riviera and finishing on Charlie Don't Surf has been done?
I know starting on CDS and finishing on Riviera is 12d but I haven't heard what the other way is.
I noticed that the prehung draws for CDS were taken down except for the last two so it seemed like someone was trying this like up.

The rest jug right before the boulder problem is quite loose and will probably come off soon unless reinforced. It has been reinforced in the past but the glue is detached. The block is quite large and would probably hurt both the climber and belayer if it gives. I don't have any experience reinforcing holds or I'd take care of it.
