Hey, I'm headed to the Burlington (NC) for a few weeks near the end of December. I've never climbed in NC, and was wondering what are some good places for easy Trad/easy-moderate sport climbing in relatively close proximity to that area? I wanted to take some people who are fairly new to climbing and have no/limited climbing experience outside. Getting some fun moderate - difficult leads out of it would also be a plus. Does Pilot fit that description the best? I have a very strange trad rack (mainly to add on to others) consisting of doubles of BD 0.75 - 3 and a single set of nuts. Are there some good guide books out there? It's also a bonus if the place has some cool hiking or biking to go along with the climbing.

Pilot is ok, not one NC's best, but it is the closest to you. It is mostly TRs and some sport. There is a free topo avaiable at the visitor's center or online.

Moores is the same distance but will likely be too cold.

Stone is a couple hours away. It is mostly bolted slab climbing with substantial runouts.

Asheboro bouldering would be within an hour. It is very good bouldering. You need to be a CCC member to go, see the Carolina climbers website.

There some other good areas but they are a little further away

Thanks. Is Crowder's Mountain a worthwhile trip?

No. IMO, unless you live very close to Crowders, it is not worth the trip. You could go to Rumbling Bald in about the same amount of time and RB is awesome.
