BETA PHOTO: My rope shows the bolt line of Purple Gurpel.

Description

Purple Gurpel is almost as fun as Purple Pumper, but it suffers from rotten rock in places, and a weird cave with a bush growing out of it. There is a fantastic-looking flake that was pretty loose. I wonder how long it will last. Purple Gurpel is a nice climb that will please those who make the hike.

Location

First bolt line from the north (right). Look for highest concentration of purple rock and you've found Purple Gurpel. Rappel from the anchors.

Protection

7 gray bolts to a two chain anchor shared with Purple Pumper on the left.

Didn't find any rotten or loose rock here. Go left at the bush.

Super fun route! I did'nt find any loose rock, and the flake seemed pretty secure to me. Im not sure if this is a 10a. There are many other 10a routes in LCC that are much more difficulut (such as Barefoot in Barbados, Mexican Crack, Plumbline, Kermit's Wad, Etc..) I also think that the grey areas of 5.9 in LCC are more difficult than this route (the Green A, Coffin, Smitty's Wet Dream, hangman) and there are even some 5.8s that are harder (last pitch of Pentapitch, Satan's Corner, Bushwack, etc). I realize some of these routes are crack climbs, but I think that this route is might rank in at an 8/9. There is only one balance hard move... The rock is awesome, and the climbing is pretty fun! Get on it. Have Fun, its all there!
